Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer? Call reception and ask.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Every six months for most people. Your dentist may recommend more frequent visits if you have gum disease or a high risk of decay.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

Call us. Emergency appointments are available every day we're open. Our emergency page has first-aid steps for a knocked-out tooth, toothache and swelling. If swelling affects breathing or swallowing, go to hospital.

Do you see children?

Yes, from their first tooth. Eligible children are bulk billed under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, up to $1,158 over two calendar years.

How do I know if my child is eligible for CDBS?

They need to be aged 0 to 17, eligible for Medicare, and in a family receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A or another eligible government payment. Services Australia sends a letter each year. If you're unsure, our friendly reception team can check for you with your child's Medicare card.

What are my options for replacing missing teeth?

Bridges and dentures are provided at Acclaim Dental. Dental implants are provided at our sister practice, Coral Coast Dental in Bargara. Your dentist will talk you through what suits your situation.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Dentist-supervised whitening is safe for healthy teeth and gums. We examine your mouth first and protect your gums during treatment. See teeth whitening.

Which health funds are you a preferred provider for?

Bupa, MBP (Medibank), CBHS, HCF, RTH (RT Health), TUH, NM Health (Nurses & Midwives Health), and Westfund. Your rebate depends on your fund and level of cover. See payment options.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept Cash and EFTPOS, as well as Denticare, Fund My Dental and ZIP Pay.

Are you taking new patients?

Yes. See new patients for what to expect.

I'm nervous about the dentist. Can you help?

Yes. Tell us when you book. We explain everything before we do it, go at your pace and agree a stop signal.

Where do I park?

Parking is available on Maryborough Street.

Do baby teeth really matter?

Yes. They hold space for adult teeth, and decay in baby teeth causes pain and infection just like adult teeth. Early visits and fluoride toothpaste prevent most problems.

Does brushing harder clean better?

No. Brushing too hard wears enamel and damages gums. A soft brush, gentle pressure and two minutes twice a day is what works.

Ready to book?

Call the practice and our front desk team will find a time that suits you. Emergency appointments are available every day we're open.
